Chasing Baja Movie Trailer

During the Baja 1000 there are cameras everywhere. Tourists have cameras, race watchers have cameras, camera crews for TV and websites have cameras. So you get used to seeing someone being interviewed on camera or even having a camera in your face.

In 2007 we were in the middle of the filming of a movie called Chasing Baja. The major sponsor was BF Goodrich and the movie would air on the Speed Channel before going to DVD. The movie followed one of the Baja Challenge cars throughout the race. My BIL was one of the drivers. As you watch the trailer look for the big bald guy with the cigar, that's my Bro-in-law.

Horsepower Ranch

Horsepower Ranch is located outside of Ensenada and is owned by Wide Open Baja. The ranch is the base of operations for for the Baja Challenge Class (BC) of cars during the Baja 1000. Before and after the race this is where we stay. All the meals are provided and the Mad Dog Catina always has a good supply of cerveza and other libations.

As I have said before when we travel down for the Baja 1000 it is a working vacation. More about Wide Open Baja and this beautiful ranch later.

Grandad's Photos 1948 Indy 500

Other than what was written on the back of the photos above I have no other information. These two photos were found in a box of photos we inherited when my husband's grandfather passed away.

With this being Memorial Day weekend, and the Indianapolis 500 is currently underway, it just seemed like a good time to bring them out. Hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Race Day from the Air

My husband took these shots during the daylight portion of the race. If you look close you can see the dust clouds from the race cars.

Ojos from the Plane

This is a view of Ojos from the plane that would be keeping track of the Baja Challenge class cars during the race. My husband took this photo.

Wide Open Baja Hospitality at Ojos Negros

Ojos Negros is about 30 miles from the start/finish of the race. 2005 was a circle race, meaning that the race began and ended in Ensenada. Wide Open Baja and Monster Energy set up a hospitality area just outside Ojos. We had tents, food, porta potties, wifi and a large semi trailer. A few motor homes circled the area and we were ready for anything.

My brother-in-law provided radio coverage for the BC cars by air. My husband was also in the plane helping out as needed. On the ground my sister-in-law and I were monitoring the BC cars by satellite tracking on the computer and giving radio updates to the plane all night.

It is a rare thing for any of us to get any sleep during the race, way too much to do. Oh, and did I mention that at night it gets really cold at Ojos Negros?
